Claw Retipping & Repair

The claws holding your gemstone in place are an important part of your ring. Over time, they can become worn, thin or damaged from everyday wear.

A worn claw can increase the risk of losing a gemstone, so it's important to have your ring inspected if you notice a problem.

Signs Your Claws May Need Repair

  • A claw looks noticeably thinner than the others

  • A claw is bent or damaged

  • Your gemstone feels loose

  • Your stone moves when touched

  • Your ring catches on clothing

  • A claw has broken off

  • Your ring has been worn for many years

What Is Claw Retipping?

Claw retipping involves rebuilding worn material on an existing claw rather than replacing the entire setting. This can restore the claw's strength and help securely hold your gemstone.

In some cases, a complete claw replacement or additional setting work may be recommended.

If you think your gemstone is loose, avoid wearing the ring until it has been inspected.
